MODULE 5

These are the steps I followed to do the final task of this course. I hope you enjoy it!

MODULE 5 ACTIVITIES

PLANNING:

I decided to plan the one week (three hours) digital story telling activity for my 3rd of ESO students as follows:

DESIGN:

-          I showed them the video I created with Creaza with the task they had to do. The link to my Creaza is:

-          In that video I asked them to create a collaborative story from the beginning of the story “A bath in the swimming pool”, from Mr. Bean. I just let them watch the first 55 seconds from either two of that links I prepared with two of the apps you taught us to clean or to see a better you tube version of a video:

Then, they had to continue the story writing one paragraph for every member of the group with their own ideas with the following apps: Creaza, Mysimpleshow, GoAnimate or Paddlet.

IMPLEMENTATION:

The thing is that at the school we have lots of problems with the computers, as they are quite old and old-fashioned and our WIFI is not working properly either, that’s why the results are not going to be as good as they should be.

The first problem they had was the impossibility of charging the pages such as Mysimpleshow, Goanimate or Creaza; when such a great quantity of their time had gone by, they could not charge the images and so on… But some of them saw the problems in advance and turned into Paddlet which was easier and obviously, with no images, which meant it was much easier to work with.

These are the two the links of the two paddlets they created:

Even the problems they had, if we have to talk about their enthusiasm, it was great, their way to write, great too, speaking in English all the time and a bit frustrated not to be able to work with the apps I’ve shown them examples of; as I had been showing them the previous tasks I did in the course about Romeo and Juliet with Go Animate or My simple show or Creaza.

They enjoyed doing the activity a lot and when the Kahoot time arrived they thrilled as they really love Kahoots.

ASSESSMENT:

-          Finally, when they had finished writing the stories, I showed them their mates’ stories and through a Kahoot they had to mark as if it was a rubric, bearing in mind the stories originality, correctness, use of English, apps used, etc.

Again, we should remember than only 9 students could do the Kahoot because of the bad WIFI, although they share it and had a great time.

And this is the Kahoot link if you want to play it:

MODULE 4

This time is collaborative story telling...

I've tried two different tools to work with my students. The first tool, which I've found it very easy to use, not only for me, but also for them, is Padlet. With Padlet I've asked my students of 3rd of ESO to tell a strange story from a video with images I posted, where they had to choose a strange image and start writing a story. They had to write two or three lines each one of them and try to build a story. We had been recording strange true stories two weeks before, so that they could follow the structure of what we had been doing before to build their own. Here is the link with what they have been writing so far:

The second tool I've used is difficult to know whether it is going to work or not, as I've been dealing with lots of problems with the Java app. I've created the talking group but we haven't been able to record anything yet as the page has still some problems with Java. I think that when it works it is going to be a great tool as I think the students will enjoy recording their voices and working together retelling stories taking turns and doing it with their own voices and words. This time they had to retell the story of A Tale of two Cities we have been reading in class. This is the link:

I hope you like it!

MODULE 3. Videos.

Hi! Good evening!

This time I've done two different videos using two different tools, one is "Mysimpleshow" and the other one is "Go Animated".

Both deal with the reader "Romeo and Juliet" we are working with at school, and I thought they were good ideas for you, students to try and do your owns. These are two very short examples of what you can do, and I know yours are going to be a great better!

There you have the links to have a look at them:

I hope you enjoy them!

MODULE 2. INFOGRAPHY.

MODULE 2. INFOGRAPHY.

Good evening!

This time it's Shakespeare time!

I've prepared a Romeo and Juliet infography to explain the students how they can tell a story through an infography, in this case through an app called Piktochart. This one I've created it to explain some differences and similarities about the films "Romeo and Juliet" by Leonardo Di Caprio, and "Shakespeare in Love" and the original play by William Shakespeare.

This is the link to the piktochart:

MODULE 2. PREZI.

Good evening!

This is the MODULE 2 Prezi task and this is the link to my prezi:

I've decided to do my prezi storytelling presentation about the unit "The tertiary or service sector" my History mate and I are going to present to our 3rd of ESO students through a PBL of both History and Geography and English subjects. Our aim is to introduce the students some basic English vocabulary they will need in order to start their Project about Transport and Tourism in Palma. The prezi tries to go through the vocabulary through a visual and motivating way. It is a way to introduce technology and capture their attention and improve their learning experience by making input more comprehensible.

Although I know it is not a story at all what I have gone through the prezi, it is an introduction of what is going to be their story.

 I hope you enjoy it!

What is storytelling and why use it in class?

I think storytelling is a wonderful way to teach and to learn plenty of things, but not just the ones in the subject contents but also to teach other aspects that will help you to be competent in life. I want to grasp your atention using your so much beloved technology and at the same time of having a good time learning all kinds of things that will be of a great use: creativity, use of language, etc. That's why I think it's going to be a great idea to use digital storytelling with some digital tools in class, I hope to learn how to use while doing the course, and to start writing... To write about stories, emotions, people, places, anything that matters us. This is how you and me are going to start our adventure, learning both together. I'll try to do my best in this course because I want to learn all about digital ways that will make you feel more interested and motivated in the topic and in the subject, while you will be learning at the same time the hard job of getting into a white page and starting to write.
